SUPER-CON 2009.
This was my first time at
SUPER-Con and I can say I'd do it again. I only wish I had
know about or been invited to the Artist Dinner Party, oh
well maybe next year.
Friday, Setup Day:
So Friday I zip down to San Jose and get to the blue tent
around 4:00 ish. Table where in place just need the location
and that got done around 5:00 or so just like I was told.
So setup was a breeze.
So
I head to Alameda to stay at my sisters place as we're doing
the table together. So far things have been easy and the Super-Con
people have been very helpful when needed.
Saturday, Sunday:
We head to San Jose
early as we want a good place to park, we get there about
7:30 AM and parking is no problem. But it's already getting
warm. Weather report says it's going to be 80 to 90, maybe
100 on Sunday, good thing we have pleant or water.
Show opens at 10:00
without a hitch, not big onslaught of people like at Wonder-Con,
but a nice even trickle. By noon it's pretty hot even inside
with the "AC" ( I laugh ) running, but it's far
hotter outside so I can't complain.
Sales were slow, but
people were stopping and looking and liking what they see.
The new banners pulled them in pretty well, so that was money
well spent and I
know I did as well or better than some people on my alley
sales wise.
While I had time, I
zoomed off to say Hi to a few people and get some comics signed.
I was happy to meet Joe Jusko whom I've conversed with on
DeviantArt a few times, Adam Hughes of course, Frank Cho and
others.
Sadly getting con sketches
from the people I would have liked to was just too far beyond
my finacial means and I think it will be for a while as I
just don't tend to make that kinda money.
Theres alot of really
good artist that go to Super-Con and a nice mellow vide, the
pace is slower than some other Cons so you can really talk
to someone without neglecting other people and of course you
get to spend Quality
Time with Costumed Babes which is always
nice.
By the end of the show
I had rung up a few sales, talked to loads of people and not
spent too much money, so all in all it was good.
Word is next year Super-Con
is moving out of the tent and into the real building, so that
should make it a much large show, now if it wasn't so darn
hot ...
